Singing Rutter, Tippett and Vaughan Williams, November 2014

Singing Rutter, Tippett and Vaughan Williams, November 2014

There’s more to Strathaven Choral Society than the polished performances enjoyed by audiences at our concerts.  As you might expect, we rehearse. Our weekly Monday night rehearsals last for two hours, or, when concert days near, we might work for another thirty minutes.

So what else needs to be done?  Ask Nic, our librarian (and an excellent tenor!), who has to source the music for every part of every piece that we sing.  Or Janice (soprano), whose job is to make sure we walk on and off stage without incident (there is a bit more to concert manager). While we all come along because we want to sing, we adopt a ‘many hands make light work’ approach and so the various tasks and duties that support our singing are shared among our many members meaning that everybody still has time enjoy our main business: joining together to make wonderful sounds – singing!
