Our Singers

Our singers, sopranos, altos, tenors and basses, travel from Clydebank, Glasgow, East Kilbride, Wishaw and elsewhere as well of course from Strathaven, to rehearse every Monday evening.  Women and men, young (yes, even a few teenagers!) and older, we asked some of them to share their thoughts on what they like about SCS:

‘Lifting up my voice in harmony with my friends’

‘the music (though not all of it!)’ ‘.. very friendly’  ‘..don’t have too travel far’ ‘tea break’

‘I love singing in a group.’

Some have been singing for most of their lives, others have more recently started or returned to singing and the choir benefits from this blend of experience and youthful enthusiasm.  Advice for prospective new members:

Come along and give it a whirl!

Don’t delay joining.

Maybe daunting at first, but surround yourself with good singers and they’ll bring you on a treat.

If you are a soprano, try and avoid joining the firsts – there are too many of them already, and not enough seconds

Give it a try!

Committee

SCS is run by members for members, conducting annual elections for a committee which is entrusted with the task of managing day to day affairs and supporting our MD in the development of the Choir.

Led by our President (elected for a three year period), the committee comprises vice president, treasurer, general secretary, music librarian, concert secretary, Making Music and section (SATB) representatives.

The committee meets every few weeks to plan and discuss current issues, future concerts, soloists as well as social events and other musical opportunities.

The committee ensures that all members are kept in touch via minutes, newsletters and announcements at rehearsals.
